                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Yolanda Olivarez has been elected chairwoman of the
 1-2     Port of Corpus Christi Authority, and her significant achievement
 1-3     is truly commendable; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, The port commission is a 78-year-old decision-making
 1-5     body that controls the development of the port area; with her
 1-6     acceptance of the position of chairwoman on January 9, 2001,
 1-7     Ms. Olivarez marks a milestone in the heritage of this
 1-8     long-standing body as she becomes the first woman and the first
 1-9     Hispanic to lead the organization; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Elected by her peers, the commissioners of the Port
1-11     of Corpus Christi, she will bring valued experience as well as a
1-12     fresh perspective to the position; previously, she served a
1-13     four-year tenure on the commission that included one year as the
1-14     port's secretary; and
1-15           WHEREAS,  A business banker at Wells Fargo Bank, Ms. Olivarez
1-16     is a dedicated leader whose many talents and skills ensure that she
1-17     will be a tremendous asset to the Port of Corpus Christi, and it is
1-18     a privilege to honor her as she begins her tenure as chairwoman;
1-19     now, therefore, be it
1-20           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
1-21     Legislature hereby congratulate Yolanda Olivarez on her election as
1-22     chairwoman of the Port of Corpus Christi Authority and extend to
1-23     her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
1-24           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-1     prepared for Ms. Olivarez as an expression of high regard by the
 2-2     Texas House of Representatives.
