                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Harry E. Johnson of Houston has recently been
 1-2     elected general president of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and
 1-3     this noteworthy honor is most deserving of special legislative
 1-4     recognition; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, A member of Alpha Phi Alpha's board of directors
 1-6     since 1993, Mr. Johnson was chosen to serve in the fraternity's
 1-7     highest ranking position for a four-year term, concluding in 2005;
 1-8     during his tenure, this natural leader will draw on his long
 1-9     history with the organization and his notable legal experience to
1-10     guide this enduring fraternity to continued success in the new
1-11     millennium; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson was initiated into the organization's
1-13     Alpha Eta Chapter at Washington University in 1975 and during his
1-14     years of academic study was a member of several chapters, including
1-15     Sigma Lambda, Epsilon Lambda, and Beta Tau, where he served as vice
1-16     president and dean of pledges; a member of Houston's Alpha Eta
1-17     Lambda Chapter since 1983, he has chaired numerous committees and
1-18     was the group's dean of pledges, vice president, and president; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Maintaining a flourishing private law practice,
1-20     Mr. Johnson is a graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana and the
1-21     Thurgood Marshall School of Law and has long used his legal
1-22     expertise in behalf of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.; he was the
1-23     organization's regional and district counsel for many years, has
1-24     served on the national Constitutional Committee, was chairman of
 2-1     the Grievance & Discipline Committee, and was the national general
 2-2     counsel from 1996 to 2000; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman is a member of the Brentwood
 2-4     Baptist Church Board of Trustees, the National Bar Association, the
 2-5     American Bar Association, and the Missouri City Branch of the
 2-6     NAACP; in addition, he has given generously of his time and many
 2-7     talents to benefit the Boy Scouts of America and the South Post Oak
 2-8     Youth Association; and
 2-9           WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson is a man of integrity and dedication,
2-10     and it is a privilege to join his family, friends, and colleagues
2-11     in honoring his many accomplishments at this time; now, therefore,
2-12     be it
2-13           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-14     Legislature hereby congratulate Harry E. Johnson on his recent
2-15     appointment as general president of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity,
2-16     Inc., and extend to him sincere best wishes for all his future
2-17     endeavors; and, be it further
2-18           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-19     prepared for Mr. Johnson as an expression of high regard by the
2-20     Texas House of Representatives.
