No. 328 77R7745 MDM-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Sergeant David Michael Furrh of the Gonzales County 1-2 Sheriff's Department was killed in the line of duty on December 6, 1-3 2000, at the age of 40, and his death was a loss not only to his 1-4 family and to his fellow peace officers but to the entire 1-5 community; and 1-6 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan exemplified in his personal and 1-7 professional conduct the virtues of courage, integrity, and 1-8 unwavering dedication, and his commitment to the law enforcement 1-9 profession, as well as to the community he served, earned him the 1-10 respect of all who knew him; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Born on August 8, 1960, in Houston to Hank and 1-12 Annebelle Furrh, he was expected to one day take over the family 1-13 business but instead found his true calling as a peace officer and 1-14 went on to serve with numerous law enforcement organizations, 1-15 including the Lavaca County Sheriff's Department and the Moulton 1-16 Police Department; a member of the Gonzales County Sheriff's 1-17 Department for the past three years, he had worked for the 1-18 department as a narcotics investigator for 18 months during his 1-19 tenure; and 1-20 WHEREAS, This devoted family man treasured his relationship 1-21 with his wife, Tollie, and his three children, Terri Lynn, Michael, 1-22 and Kale; in his leisure time he served on the boards of the 1-23 Moulton Independent School District and the Moulton medical clinic 1-24 and as a member of the Sheriffs Association of Texas, Zion Lutheran 2-1 Church of Moulton, and the Southwestern Pool Association; and 2-2 WHEREAS, He had a particular love for children and, over the 2-3 course of his career, Sergeant Furrh was instrumental in the 2-4 formation of several Blue Santa programs at law enforcement 2-5 agencies with which he was involved; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Sergeant Furrh's life reflected a deep commitment to 2-7 the welfare of others; though his life has been cut tragically 2-8 short, his memory will live on in the hearts and minds of the 2-9 countless people whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-11 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Sergeant David 2-12 Michael Furrh and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his 2-13 family: to his wife, Tollie Pakebusch Furrh; to his children, Terri 2-14 Lynn, Michael, and Kale Furrh; to his parents, Hank and Annebelle 2-15 Furrh; to his sisters, Kathryn Wagner and Karen Dierschke; and to 2-16 the many other friends and relatives of this fine man; and, be it 2-17 further 2-18 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-19 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-20 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-21 Sergeant David Michael Furrh.
