By Dunnam H.R. No. 337 77R7148 GMW-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to 1-2 recognize the A. Philip Randolph Institute (APRI) for its decades 1-3 of dedication to ensuring racial equality and economic justice; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Founded in 1965, this outstanding organization 1-5 diligently strives to achieve the mission championed by its 1-6 namesake, Asa Philip Randolph; a labor leader and a father of the 1-7 civil rights movement, Mr. Randolph envisioned a society in which 1-8 people of all colors could live in freedom and dignity; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The APRI seeks to bring about change through the 1-10 democratic process and actively supports a host of social, 1-11 economic, labor, political, and legislative issues on both the 1-12 state and national level; moreover, its "Black-Labor Alliance" 1-13 builds community support for the trade union movement while 1-14 advancing the needs and concerns of African Americans; and 1-15 WHEREAS, There are more than 150 chapters of the APRI in 36 1-16 states, and the members of these branches have made an immeasurable 1-17 difference in the struggle for justice; endeavoring to ensure 1-18 equality for all Americans is truly an admirable undertaking, and 1-19 it is a privilege to honor the APRI and its dedicated leaders and 1-20 members for their efforts in that regard; now, therefore, be it 1-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 1-22 Legislature hereby commend the A. Philip Randolph Institute for its 1-23 many good works and extend to all those associated with this 1-24 noteworthy organization best wishes for continued success.
