No. 338 77R7499 WMS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On July 31, 2001, Corporal Afton Lamar "Al" Lawson, 1-2 Jr., will retire from the Missouri City Police Department, bringing 1-3 to a close an outstanding tenure in law enforcement that has 1-4 spanned 24 years; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Initially a reserve police officer, this dedicated 1-6 individual became a full-time patrolman in 1977; he later took a 1-7 position as an identification officer and in 1998 earned the rank 1-8 of corporal in the identification division, where he has been 1-9 instrumental in its organization and restructuring; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Corporal Lawson is a member of such esteemed 1-11 organizations as the Southeast Texas Association for Identification 1-12 and Investigation, Texas Police Association, Combined Law 1-13 Enforcement Association of Texas, and the Missouri City Police 1-14 Officer's Association; and 1-15 WHEREAS, His notable public and civic contributions include 1-16 service in the Texas Air National Guard and the Missouri City Fire 1-17 Department, and he was also a scoutmaster for Boy Scouts of America 1-18 Troops 70 and 266; and 1-19 WHEREAS, In recognition of his exceptional work, Corporal 1-20 Lawson has received numerous letters of recommendation from 1-21 citizens and supervisory staff; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Throughout the course of his tenure with the 1-23 Missouri City Police Department, he has set standards of 1-24 professionalism to which all in the field of law enforcement can 2-1 aspire and it is indeed appropriate that he be honored at this 2-2 time; now, therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-4 Legislature hereby commend Corporal Afton Lamar Lawson, Jr., on his 2-5 exemplary service as a member of the Missouri City Police 2-6 Department and extend to him sincere best wishes for a happy and 2-7 rewarding retirement; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-9 prepared for Corporal Lawson as an expression of high regard by the 2-10 Texas House of Representatives.
