                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Dr. Ann Sartin Windle of Denton on
 1-2     January 28, 2001, at the age of 53, has brought a great loss to the
 1-3     family and friends of this esteemed Texan; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Born on May 3, 1947, Dr. Windle graduated from
 1-5     Haltom High School before pursuing her higher education at North
 1-6     Texas State University, where she obtained a bachelor of science
 1-7     degree in education; she earned a master's degree from Texas
 1-8     Christian University, and in 1978 received her doctorate in early
 1-9     childhood education and child development; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Dr. Windle, who belonged to Delta Kappa Gamma, Kappa
1-11     Delta Phi, and Delta Zeta Sorority, later continued her studies
1-12     with postdoctoral work at the University of North Texas from 1989
1-13     to 1990; and
1-14           WHEREAS, A distinguished educator, Dr. Windle taught  classes
1-15     from kindergarten through college; from 1989 to 1994, she was a
1-16     trustee of the Selwyn School, and from 1993 to 1994, she worked on
1-17     the board of Denton County Child Protective Services and the
1-18     Juvenile Diversionary Service Board; in 1998, Dr. Windle was
1-19     elected to Place 4 on the Denton Independent School District Board
1-20     of Education; and
1-21           WHEREAS, She devoted considerable time and energy as
1-22     secretary of the DISD Board of Education, as state treasurer of the
1-23     Texas Association for the Education of Young Children, and as
1-24     finance chair of the Denton Association for the Education of Young
 2-1     Children, and she was a valued member of First United Methodist
 2-2     Church of Denton; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, Her myriad contributions to education in Texas and
 2-4     to her community were duly recognized when the students at the
 2-5     University of North Texas gave her the 'Fessor Graham Award for
 2-6     Outstanding Professor; moreover, her good works are evidenced in
 2-7     the generations of students whose lives are richer because of
 2-8     Dr. Windle's positive influence and dedication to learning; and
 2-9           WHEREAS, A loving wife and mother, Dr. Windle was an
2-10     outstanding educator who has left an indelible mark on countless
2-11     lives in the Lone Star State, and it is most appropriate to honor
2-12     her memory at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-13           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-14     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Ann S. Windle and
2-15     extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
2-16     husband, the Honorable Don R. Windle; to her daughters, Elisabeth
2-17     "Beth" Ann Windle and Amy Rebecca Windle; to her parents, Emmitt
2-18     and Robbye Sartin; to her brothers, E. D. Sartin, Jr., and Jack
2-19     Sartin; to her parents-in-law, Ray and Lois Windle; and to her
2-20     nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends; and, be it
2-21     further
2-22           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-23     prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
2-24     Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Ann
2-25     Sartin Windle.
