No. 384 77R8247 MDM-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 Carl Eggleston of Odessa on the notable occasion of his 100th 1-3 birthday; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Born on March 3, 1901, in Aubrey, he has been a 1-5 resident of Odessa since 1934, when he moved there with his wife, 1-6 Ada; the couple enjoyed a happy and fulfilling relationship until 1-7 her passing in 1996, and they were blessed with a son, Billy, and a 1-8 daughter, Jarolda; Mr. Eggleston takes great pride in his 1-9 close-knit family that through the years has grown to include four 1-10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and 1-11 WHEREAS, He was employed in the machine and auto parts 1-12 industry before embarking on a second career in the insurance 1-13 business, from which he retired at the age of 80; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Known as the oldest active member of The Gideons 1-15 International, Mr. Eggleston became involved with the Christian 1-16 business and professional men's association in Big Spring many 1-17 years ago; in 1944, he started an Odessa camp with five members, 1-18 and the group is still flourishing today; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Mr. Eggleston shares his faith with fellow 1-20 congregants as a member of the First Church of God, which he has 1-21 attended since 1938, and his favorite leisure time activities in 1-22 recent years have included walking on his treadmill, tending his 1-23 yard, and maintaining a vegetable garden; and 1-24 WHEREAS, This beloved man has long dedicated himself to his 2-1 family, his faith, and his community, and it is most appropriate 2-2 that he be recognized at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-4 Legislature hereby congratulate Carl Eggleston on the momentous 2-5 occasion of his 100th birthday and extend to him best wishes for 2-6 continued happiness; and, be it further 2-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-8 prepared for Mr. Eggleston as an expression of high regard by the 2-9 Texas House of Representatives.
