R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Johnny Wallace of Cedar Hill is being honored as an 1-2 Outstanding Texan for his many positive contributions to his 1-3 community by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus at its conference, 1-4 which is being held in Austin on March 14-16, 2001; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A dedicated business leader, Mr. Wallace graduated 1-6 summa cum laude from Southridge State University with a bachelor of 1-7 arts degree in business administration and computer science; he 1-8 also earned an industrial management and marketing degree from 1-9 Purdue University; and 1-10 WHEREAS, In 1987, this notable Texan founded AmeriTex Vending 1-11 Company, a full-line vending business that provides a variety of 1-12 food and beverage services; as company president, Mr. Wallace has 1-13 expanded sales by 400 percent and developed the Excellence in Sales 1-14 training course; operating from a new 17,000-square-foot complex, 1-15 he and his 10 employees cater to numerous clients, including EDS, 1-16 GTE, TXU, Richland College, and the City of Dallas; and 1-17 WHEREAS, In addition to creating a successful business 1-18 enterprise, Mr. Wallace has been active with numerous professional 1-19 and civic organizations, including the Dallas Chamber of Commerce, 1-20 the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce, the Cedar Hill Chamber of 1-21 Commerce, the National Automatic Merchandising Association, and the 1-22 New Image Business Association; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Mr. Wallace has also participated in the DFW 1-24 Minority Business Development Council and served on the boards of 2-1 the Texas Merchandising Vending Association, Leadership Dallas 2-2 Southwest, and Leadership Arts; and 2-3 WHEREAS, He devoted his time and energy in reaching out to 2-4 the area's youth as an active member of the Best Southwest Scholars 2-5 program, which motivates students to perform well in school, and as 2-6 a member of the advisory board to the Duncanville Board of 2-7 Education; and 2-8 WHEREAS, In 1992, Mr. Wallace was duly recognized as 2-9 "Entrepreneur of the Year" by the Best Southwest Small Business 2-10 Development Council; three years later, he was designated the TU 2-11 Electric Golden Star Supplier and received the "Quest for Success" 2-12 entrepreneur award; moreover, the Plano Chamber of Commerce named 2-13 him the 1996 Minority Supplier of the Year; and 2-14 WHEREAS, A successful business owner and community leader, 2-15 Mr. Wallace is truly an Outstanding Texan who is most deserving of 2-16 special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-17 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-18 Legislature hereby commend Johnny Wallace for his exemplary 2-19 professional and civic achievements and congratulate him on his 2-20 receipt of an Outstanding Texan Award from the Texas Legislative 2-21 Black Caucus; and, be it further 2-22 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-23 prepared for Mr. Wallace as an expression of high regard by the 2-24 Texas House of Representatives.
