R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, H. Ron White has dedicated himself to working toward 1-2 the betterment of his community through numerous professional and 1-3 civic activities, and on the occasion of his selection by the Texas 1-4 Legislative Black Caucus to receive the Outstanding Texan Award, it 1-5 is most appropriate to honor his many achievements; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The caucus' Outstanding Texan Awards are being 1-7 presented at an awards gala on March 16, 2001, and recognize 1-8 individuals who have made positive contributions to their 1-9 communities and have demonstrated a commitment to improving, 1-10 developing, and enriching the lives of their fellowman; Mr. White's 1-11 laudable accomplishments not only meet this criteria, but also set 1-12 a high standard to which others can aspire; and 1-13 WHEREAS, The managing partner of White Sims & Wiggins, 1-14 L.L.P., in Dallas, this distinguished gentleman is a graduate of 1-15 Hampton University in Virginia and Howard University Law School in 1-16 Washington, D.C.; he is a veteran of the United States Army, 1-17 serving honorably during the Vietnam War and concluding his 1-18 seven-year tour of duty in 1969; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Mr. White began his noteworthy law career as 1-20 corporate counsel for the Atlantic-Richfield Company, where he was 1-21 employed for six years before embarking on a successful private law 1-22 practice; this accomplished lawyer has garnered more than 20 years 1-23 of legal experience, including an appointment as the State District 1-24 Judge for the 301st District Court in 1983; and 2-1 WHEREAS, In addition to his demanding profession, Mr. White 2-2 has given generously of his time and talents to a host of 2-3 worthwhile community initiatives as the director of both the 2-4 Methodist Hospital of Dallas and the North Texas Commission, chair 2-5 of the Greater Dallas Chapter of the African/Caribbean Committee of 2-6 International Advisory Council, and director of the Dallas Together 2-7 Forum; and 2-8 WHEREAS, A man of integrity and exceptional character, 2-9 Mr. White has earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues 2-10 and friends for his role as a community leader, businessman, and 2-11 neighbor, and it is a privilege to join them in honoring him at 2-12 this time; now, therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-14 Legislature hereby commend H. Ron White for his exemplary civic and 2-15 professional endeavors and extend to him sincere congratulations on 2-16 his receipt of the Outstanding Texan Award from the Texas 2-17 Legislative Black Caucus; and, be it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-19 prepared for Mr. White as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-20 House of Representatives.
