R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Montgomery County continues to thrive in part due to
1-2 the myriad contributions of its devoted community leaders, and one
1-3 such noteworthy individual who is visiting the Capitol on this day
1-4 is Leon William Cubillas, superintendent of the Splendora
1-5 Independent School District; and
1-6 WHEREAS, Mr. Cubillas began his career as an educator in
1-7 Texas with Splendora ISD in 1977 as a social studies teacher; and
1-8 WHEREAS, From 1982 to 1989, he worked at Charles R. Dukes
1-9 Junior High School, the first four years as its assistant principal
1-10 and the last three as its principal; there Mr. Cubillas
1-11 demonstrated skill in school management, personnel development,
1-12 public relations, and curriculum development, implementation, and
1-13 evaluation; and
1-14 WHEREAS, This esteemed administrator served as associate
1-15 superintendent of Splendora ISD for three years, a position in
1-16 which he was responsible for implementing and refining the
1-17 curriculum and for numerous other important projects; in 1992 he
1-18 became superintendent, and his invaluable leadership in this
1-19 capacity has helped to ensure that countless young Texans have
1-20 received a solid education and has gained the district "recognized"
1-21 status; and
1-22 WHEREAS, Mr. Cubillas has earned recognition for his stellar
1-23 work, including being named Educator of the Year by the Region VI
1-24 Special Education Directors and Superintendent of the Year for
2-1 Region VI in 1997; moreover, this service-oriented Texan has been
2-2 active with many worthwhile groups, such as the East Montgomery
2-3 County Improvement District, the Education Service Center Region VI
2-4 Executive Committee, the Texas and national PTA councils, and the
2-5 board and several committees of the Community Chamber of Commerce;
2-6 and
2-7 WHEREAS, The enthusiasm with which Leon William Cubillas
2-8 approaches his role as an educator and civic leader is truly
2-9 impressive, and he has most certainly earned the gratitude of
2-10 countless people during his years of service to his profession and
2-11 his community; now, therefore, be it
2-12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-13 Legislature hereby commend Leon William Cubillas for his exemplary
2-14 community leadership and extend to him sincere best wishes for
2-15 continued success and happiness; and, be it further
2-16 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-17 prepared for Mr. Cubillas as an expression of high regard by the
2-18 Texas House of Representatives.
