R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Florentino "Lico" Subia of El Paso marks a 1-2 noteworthy milestone in his life when he celebrates his 70th 1-3 birthday on March 5, 2001; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Born on March 5, 1931, Mr. Subia had a commendable 1-5 26-year career with Western Union that was interrupted by his 1-6 distingished military service during the Korean War; and 1-7 WHEREAS, A man of diverse interests, he was a competitive 1-8 boxer in his youth and began his own team and training program in 1-9 1984; he is also a community activist who led a successful campaign 1-10 to have a street in his neighborhood renamed in memory of his 1-11 brother, Alfredo "Baby" Subia, a promising young boxer who gave his 1-12 life in service to this country during World War II; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Mr. Subia is a motorcycle enthusiast as well who met 1-14 First Lady Laura Bush when he invited her to his neighborhood to 1-15 see the mural painted on the home he shares with his wife, Mickie, 1-16 and later remade her acquaintance at a fundraiser for the El Paso 1-17 Public Library Literacy Center when a vintage 1976 Harley Davidson 1-18 motorcycle was dedicated in her honor; and 1-19 WHEREAS, In addition, his love of motorcycles led him to 1-20 found the Iron Horses in 1978; this notable bike club is now 1-21 affiliated and working with the Reach for a Star organization to 1-22 help terminally ill children; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Mr. Subia is a loving husband, father, and 1-24 grandfather, and his many good works and deeds speak volumes about 2-1 his immense character and commitment to his community; moreover, he 2-2 has enriched the lives of countless people, and as he celebrates 2-3 his 70th birthday, it is truly a pleasure to pay tribute to him; 2-4 now, therefore, be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-6 Legislature hereby congratulate Florentino "Lico" Subia on the 2-7 joyous event of his 70th birthday and extend to him sincere best 2-8 wishes for continued good fortune and happiness; and, be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 prepared for Mr. Subia as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-11 House of Representatives.
