No. 423 77R4808 MJS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Lake Highlands High School seniors Jessica Lowe and 1-2 Colt Segrest of Dallas have been selected as Youth of the Month for 1-3 November 2000 by the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands, and these 1-4 exemplary students are truly deserving of special recognition for 1-5 their many accomplishments; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Each month, the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands 1-7 recognizes two seniors from Lake Highlands High School for 1-8 superlative academic achievement and noteworthy extracurricular 1-9 involvement; these deserving individuals receive U.S. Savings Bonds 1-10 and are made eligible for college scholarships to help defray the 1-11 costs of continuing their education; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Ms. Lowe is a model student and a member of her 1-13 school's student council, debate team, and Young Life, and she 1-14 serves as a peer helper; she was also a homecoming princess in 1999 1-15 and has been named to Who's Who Among American High School 1-16 Students; and 1-17 WHEREAS, This talented young woman is involved in a number of 1-18 organizations outside of school, including the Dallas Fort Worth 1-19 Association of Black Journalists and New Mount Zion Baptist Church, 1-20 where she is a Sunday school pianist and a member of the church 1-21 theatrical drama team and the spiritual/interpretative dance team; 1-22 Ms. Lowe's plans include majoring in journalism in college; and 1-23 WHEREAS, A member of the Junior Exchange Club, Latin Club, 1-24 and Junior Classical League, Mr. Segrest excels in the classroom; 2-1 he is an "A" honor roll student and belongs to the National Honor 2-2 Society; this estimable young man recently attended a prestigious 2-3 summer college program at Cambridge University in England and hopes 2-4 to study English and history in college; and 2-5 WHEREAS, A member of St. John's Episcopal Church, he has 2-6 served as an acolyte and is active in the church youth program; he 2-7 also assists other students as a peer helper and tutor; and 2-8 WHEREAS, The Youth of the Month Award helps to affirm the 2-9 positive and productive civic, academic, and extracurricular 2-10 participation of the young people of Lake Highlands High School, 2-11 and it is indeed a privilege to recognize the merits of this award 2-12 and to pay tribute to the deserving students who are selected to 2-13 receive it; now, therefore, be it 2-14 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-15 Legislature hereby commend Jessica Lowe and Colt Segrest on being 2-16 named Youth of the Month for November 2000 by the Exchange Club of 2-17 Lake Highlands and extend to them sincere best wishes for success 2-18 and happiness in their future endeavors; and, be it further 2-19 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-20 prepared for Ms. Lowe and Mr. Segrest as an expression of high 2-21 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
