No. 426 77R4810 MDM-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Lake Highlands High School seniors Mark Allen and 1-2 Jaini Shah of Dallas have been selected as Youth of the Month for 1-3 October 2000 by the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands, and these 1-4 exemplary students are truly deserving of special recognition for 1-5 their many accomplishments; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Each month, the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands 1-7 recognizes two seniors from Lake Highlands High School for 1-8 superlative academic achievement and noteworthy extracurricular 1-9 involvement; these deserving individuals receive U.S. Savings Bonds 1-10 and are made eligible for college scholarships to help defray the 1-11 costs of continuing their education; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Mr. Allen is a National Merit Scholarship 1-13 semifinalist, has attained a 4.0 grade point average, and is ranked 1-14 fifth in the senior class; he is president of the National Honor 1-15 Society, is a member of Mu Alpha Theta and the Fellowship of 1-16 Christian Athletes, serves as treasurer of the A Cappella Choir, 1-17 and has played on the baseball and varsity tennis teams; and 1-18 WHEREAS, This outstanding young man was recently named Young 1-19 Texan of the Month by the Optimist Club of Richardson; an Eagle 1-20 Scout and former patrol leader, he has given generously of his time 1-21 as a volunteer at Highland Park United Methodist Church and at 1-22 Presbyterian Hospital; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Ms. Shah is a recent recipient of the Xerox Award 1-24 for the Humanities and Social Sciences; a National Merit 2-1 Scholarship semifinalist with a 4.0 grade point average, she is a 2-2 member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta; and 2-3 WHEREAS, An active member of her Hindu temple, she also 2-4 volunteers at Baylor Hospital in Garland, Audelia Library, and the 2-5 Richardson Public Library; she has participated on her school's 2-6 soccer team and holds a green belt in karate; and 2-7 WHEREAS, The Youth of the Month Award helps to affirm the 2-8 positive and productive civic, academic, and extracurricular 2-9 participation of the young people of Lake Highlands High School, 2-10 and it is indeed a privilege to recognize the merits of this award 2-11 and to pay tribute to the deserving students who are selected to 2-12 receive it; now, therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-14 Legislature hereby congratulate Mark Allen and Jaini Shah on being 2-15 named Youth of the Month for October 2000 by the Exchange Club of 2-16 Lake Highlands and extend to them best wishes for success and 2-17 happiness in all their future endeavors; and, be it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-19 prepared for Mr. Allen and Ms. Shah as an expression of high regard 2-20 by the Texas House of Representatives.
