R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The year 2001 marks the 100th anniversary of the 1-2 Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Public Library in Brenham, and this 1-3 noteworthy milestone indeed merits special legislative recognition; 1-4 and 1-5 WHEREAS, Founded on February 19, 1901, by the Fortnightly 1-6 Club as the Brenham Public Library, it was originally located in 1-7 the Giddings and Giddings Bank; it grew from an initial 1,000 1-8 volumes to 5,000 by 1914, and two decades later moved to a new home 1-9 one block north of the Washington County Courthouse; and 1-10 WHEREAS, This community institution moved into its current 1-11 location in historic Fireman's Park in 1974 and was renamed the 1-12 Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library and its continued growth has 1-13 seen the collection expand to 40,000 volumes by 1990; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Still run by the Fortnightly Club, the library is 1-15 the property of the City of Brenham and provides services for all 1-16 of Washington County; many Texans have benefited immeasurably from 1-17 the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Public Library, as its ample 1-18 supply of reading materials have provided necessary information and 1-19 countless hours of enjoyment to a century's worth of readers; now, 1-20 therefore, be it 1-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 1-22 Legislature hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Nancy 1-23 Carol Roberts Memorial Public Library in Brenham and extend sincere 1-24 best wishes to all those associated with this fine facility for a 2-1 memorable centennial observance.
