No. 444 77R8248 MMS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Ian McLain of Gonzales is showing tremendous spirit 1-2 and courage as he works to recover from serious injuries, and he 1-3 and his family are continuing to receive great support from the 1-4 people of Gonzales and from countless others across the country; 1-5 and 1-6 WHEREAS, Ian and his family were vacationing in Colorado last 1-7 summer when he was struck by lightning on July 10, 2000; he was in 1-8 a coma for more than four weeks and spent four months in Denver and 1-9 San Antonio hospitals, but on October 27 this brave fellow returned 1-10 home to Gonzales; and 1-11 WHEREAS, To commemorate his homecoming, a Texas flag was 1-12 flown over the State Capitol in his honor, and the town of Gonzales 1-13 was covered with signs welcoming Ian home; and 1-14 WHEREAS, From the moment this accident occurred, people from 1-15 far and wide have responded with an outpouring of prayers and 1-16 assistance, from the stranger on the mountain who helped Ian's 1-17 father administer CPR, to the EMS crew, doctors, nurses, and 1-18 physical therapists, to the community of Gonzales, Ian's school, 1-19 and numerous friends and relatives; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Ian continues to do therapy six days a week, and he 1-21 is making steady progress; he is going to school for a few hours 1-22 each day, and he was a big hit in the school Christmas play; for 1-23 his 10th birthday, he had a Hawaiian luau, and to the great delight 1-24 of his family, friends, and many admirers, he has started singing 2-1 his favorite Elvis Presley song again; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Ian has been blessed with the love and encouragement 2-3 of his mother, Kris, his father, Greg, his sisters, Morgan and 2-4 Chelsi, and his grandparents, uncles, and aunts, just as they have 2-5 been blessed by this fine son, brother, grandson, and nephew; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Ian McLain is back home in Gonzales, working hard at 2-7 his school work and his therapy, and impressing everyone with his 2-8 can-do attitude, and he is a Texan of whom we can all be extremely 2-9 proud; now, therefore, be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-11 Legislature hereby commend Ian McLain for his outstanding courage 2-12 and determination and extend to him its sincere best wishes as he 2-13 continues his recovery; and, be it further 2-14 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-15 prepared for Ian McLain as an expression of high regard by the 2-16 Texas House of Representatives.
