R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, March 9, 2001, marks a golden milestone for Clyde 1-2 Ennis and Melba Ruth Adams of Newton, as on that day they celebrate 1-3 their 50th wedding anniversary; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Mr. Adams attended Newton High School, graduated 1-5 from The University of Texas at Austin in 1949, and served his 1-6 country in the U.S. Navy for two years; Mrs. Adams also attended 1-7 Newton High School, and after studying at Business College in 1-8 Beaumont, she worked as a clerk at the Newton County Courthouse; 1-9 and 1-10 WHEREAS, This joyous couple were united in matrimony on March 1-11 9, 1951, two weeks after Mr. Adams proposed through the courthouse 1-12 window where the future Mrs. Adams was employed; he went on to work 1-13 in the oil business, cofounding the Campbell Oil Company, and she 1-14 became a full-time homemaker; and 1-15 WHEREAS, These loving Texans have shared an enduring union 1-16 that has been blessed with six children, and they have proudly 1-17 watched as their extended family has grown to include 12 1-18 grandchildren; and 1-19 WHEREAS, For half a century, Mr. and Mrs. Adams have filled 1-20 each other's lives with love, cherished family memories, and many 1-21 happy times, and it is indeed a privilege to honor them on this 1-22 momentous occasion; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 1-24 Legislature hereby congratulate Clyde and Melba Adams on the 2-1 occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them best 2-2 wishes for the future; and, be it further 2-3 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-4 prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Adams as an expression of high regard by 2-5 the Texas House of Representatives.
