                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, On this day, registered nurses, licensed vocational
 1-2     nurses, and nursing students have come to Austin to commemorate
 1-3     Nurse's Day at the State Capitol, and the Texas House of
 1-4     Representatives is proud to welcome these dedicated health care
 1-5     providers; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Demonstrating the commitment and tireless spirit of
 1-7     the individuals who choose this difficult but critical profession,
 1-8     nurses from more than 20 organizations affiliated with the Nursing
 1-9     Legislative Agenda Coalition are represented today; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Currently, 125,000 registered nurses and 70,000
1-11     licensed vocational nurses staff hospitals, clinics, nursing homes,
1-12     and home health agencies throughout the state, and the compassion
1-13     and high ideals of these commendable individuals has made nursing
1-14     one of our most trusted professions; and
1-15           WHEREAS, In recent years, Texas has seen a shortage of nurses
1-16     that is predicted to worsen over the next decade; this shortage
1-17     makes the student nurses, who represent the future of this
1-18     honorable profession, an especially valuable resource for this
1-19     state; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Enhancing the health and well-being of their fellow
1-21     Texans is truly a noble calling, and it is a privilege to honor the
1-22     nurses of Texas; now, therefore, be it
1-23           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
1-24     Legislature hereby acknowledge March 7, 2001, as Nurse's Day at the
 2-1     State Capitol and extend to all those participating in the event
 2-2     sincere best wishes for a memorable visit to Austin; and, be it
 2-3     further
 2-4           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-5     prepared for the member organizations of the Nursing Legislative
 2-6     Agenda Coalition as an expression of high regard by the Texas House
 2-7     of Representatives.
