No. 463 77R8755 WMS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Gatesville High School Hornets football team has 1-2 reached the pinnacle of success by winning the 2000 UIL Class 3A 1-3 Division I state championship; and 1-4 WHEREAS, After winning the District 17-3A title, Gatesville 1-5 marched through the state playoffs to the title game, where they 1-6 demonstrated true championship heart in defeating Abilene Wylie 1-7 High School 14-10 to claim the coveted crown and complete their 1-8 season with a perfect 15-0 record; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The Hornets' stingy defense allowed opponents only 1-10 6.3 points per game and set a school record with 21 interceptions; 1-11 on the other side of the ball, the prolific Gatesville offense 1-12 averaged more than 28 points and 386.6 yards gained per game; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Each team member made significant contributions to 1-14 the Hornets' overall success, and captains Taurean Henderson, who 1-15 set a single season school and Centex rushing record with 2,952 1-16 yards, Kyle McClellan, Chris Long, Tim Miller, Perry Garrett, and 1-17 Pedro Quintero, who established a team record with 201 tackles, 1-18 played a vital role in spurring their team to the state 1-19 championship; and 1-20 WHEREAS, These outstanding young athletes are a source of 1-21 tremendous pride to the students and staff at Gatesville High 1-22 School, as well as their many supporters in the community, and it 1-23 is indeed appropriate that they receive special legislative 1-24 recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-2 Legislature hereby congratulate the Gatesville High School Hornets 2-3 football team on winning the 2000 UIL Class 3A Division I state 2-4 championship and extend to the players and coaches sincere best 2-5 wishes for continued success; and, be it further 2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-7 prepared for the team members and coaching staff as an expression 2-8 of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
