R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Richard Rivera of Weslaco has received a Texas 1-2 Exemplary Superintendent of the Year Award, and this noteworthy 1-3 achievement is indeed deserving of special legislative recognition; 1-4 and 1-5 WHEREAS, Presented in cooperation with the Dana Research 1-6 Center, this award is given to 10 superintendents in the Lone Star 1-7 State who have demonstrated superb leadership, initiative, and 1-8 commitment to furthering education; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Under Mr. Rivera's astute and skillful guidance, the 1-10 Weslaco Independent School District (ISD) has flourished and has 1-11 earned "recognized" status from the Texas Education Agency for the 1-12 past five consecutive years; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Based on its students' overall outstanding academic 1-14 performance, Weslaco ISD was accorded the noteworthy distinction of 1-15 being chosen as one of 10 high-performing school districts in 1-16 Texas; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Mr. Rivera's impressive record of service has earned 1-18 him many accolades, including selection as the 1998-1999 Texas 1-19 Classroom Teachers Association Central Office Administrator of the 1-20 Year and the 1998 Advanced Placement Administrator of the Year; 1-21 moreover, he garnered the 1998 University of Texas-Austin Exemplary 1-22 Superintendent Award; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure, Mr. Rivera has been a devoted 1-24 educator and role model for his students, faculty members, and 2-1 fellow administrators; providing for the diverse educational needs 2-2 of the young people of our state is an undertaking of paramount 2-3 importance, and it is most appropriate to pay tribute to those 2-4 estimable public servants who strive to accomplish this important 2-5 goal; now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-7 Legislature hereby commend Richard Rivera for being chosen as a 2-8 Texas Exemplary Superintendent of the Year and extend to him 2-9 sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it 2-10 further 2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-12 prepared for Mr. Rivera as an expression of high regard by the 2-13 Texas House of Representatives.
