R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Reggie "Air Man" Dixon, who delighted basketball 1-2 fans across the world for more than a decade as a member of the 1-3 Harlem Globetrotters, has turned his talents and energy to helping 1-4 the youth of Texas; and 1-5 WHEREAS, In conjunction with the Third Ward Youth Sports 1-6 Association, the Conceive, Believe, and Achieve Program of the 1-7 Reggie "Air Man" Dixon Foundation, which has touched the lives of 1-8 more than 5,000 children in the Houston area over the past year 1-9 alone, is sponsoring an All-Star Saturday on March 10, 2001; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The event is part of a six-week basketball league 1-11 involving students from Blackshear, Dodson, Douglas, J. Will Jones, 1-12 Lockhart, Turner, and TSU Lab elementary schools and will include 1-13 an All-Star game, two-ball competition, a slam dunk contest, team 1-14 shooting, and a cheerleading contest; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Mr. Dixon received encouragement as a young man from 1-16 Hall of Famer and former Houston Rocket Calvin Murphy, and this 1-17 influence led to his success as a player, goodwill ambassador for 1-18 the Harlem Globetrotters, and the organization's youngest coach; he 1-19 is passing on that positive experience by teaching young people 1-20 life skills and fostering sound principles for success through 1-21 involvement in sports; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Those individuals who use their celebrity to promote 1-23 positive choices for young people are performing a significant 1-24 service to our society, and Reggie Dixon's contributions in this 2-1 regard are an inspiration to all who know him; now, therefore, be 2-2 it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-4 Legislature hereby commend Reggie "Air Man" Dixon for the joy and 2-5 hope he has brought to numerous Texas youths through the Conceive, 2-6 Believe, and Achieve Program and extend to him sincere best wishes 2-7 for continued success; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-9 prepared for Mr. Dixon as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-10 House of Representatives.
