No. 481 77R8779 MMS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Edwin Arnold Spacek of Quitman on 1-2 January 7, 2001, at the age of 90 has brought a profound sense of 1-3 loss to the family and friends of this admirable Texan; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Mr. Spacek was born on July 3, 1910, in Granger and 1-5 graduated from Texas Tech University; while in college he belonged 1-6 to a dance orchestra that performed throughout West Texas and was a 1-7 charter member of the Silver Key Fraternity; and 1-8 WHEREAS, During World War II, Mr. Spacek served with 1-9 distinction in the United States Army Air Corps; returning home, he 1-10 rendered immeasurable assistance as the agricultural extension 1-11 agent for Wood County from 1946 until his retirement in 1975; and 1-12 WHEREAS, A community leader, Mr. Spacek played a crucial role 1-13 in securing the restoration of Quitman's historic Stinson house, 1-14 the home of Ima Hogg's grandparents; he was also involved in the 1-15 creation of four county lakes, projects that must have pleased him 1-16 enormously as he was a devoted fly fisherman; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Mr. Spacek was past director of the West Texas 1-18 Chamber of Commerce and a longtime member and past president of the 1-19 Quitman chapter of Rotary International; he was also a valued 1-20 member of First United Methodist Church; and 1-21 WHEREAS, With his wife, the late Virginia Spilman Spacek, 1-22 Mr. Spacek was the parent of five children, three of whom 1-23 predeceased him; keeping the love and friendship of this good man 1-24 forever in their hearts, the family and friends of Mr. Spacek will 2-1 remember him always with affection and admiration; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Throughout his long and productive life Mr. Spacek's 2-3 caring efforts enriched the lives of countless individuals, and it 2-4 is altogether fitting that he be memorialized by this body; now, 2-5 therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-7 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Edwin Arnold Spacek 2-8 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his 2-9 children and their spouses, Ed Spacek, Jr., and his wife, Tannie, 2-10 and actress Sissy Spacek and her husband, Jack Fisk; to his sister, 2-11 Rose Byrd; to his five grandchildren; and to his other relatives 2-12 and many friends; and, be it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-14 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of 2-15 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Edwin 2-16 Arnold Spacek.
