R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Alicia Cron has been named Texas Middle School 1-2 Teacher of the Year by the state chapter of the National Council of 1-3 Teachers of English, and it is indeed appropriate to take this 1-4 opportunity to honor her; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A teacher in the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo school 1-6 district for three decades, Mrs. Cron is an 1-7 English-as-a-second-language teacher at Alamo Middle School, where 1-8 she was selected as Teacher of the Year in 1989; her many years as 1-9 an educator, coupled with her innovative teaching style, have 1-10 allowed this acclaimed instructor to expand beyond the traditional 1-11 curriculum and provide a truly unique learning environment for her 1-12 students; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Over the years, her creative lesson plans have 1-14 consisted of a host of memorable activities, including having 1-15 students dress up as characters from well-known novels like The 1-16 Great Gatsby and The Wizard of Oz, constructing a rain forest 1-17 similar to the one in The Great Kapok Tree, organizing holiday 1-18 pageants, and hosting a student video contest; with her richly 1-19 decorated classroom that changes with each new lesson, Mrs. Cron 1-20 aspires to instill a love of learning and spark the natural 1-21 curiosity that resides in all of her students; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Endeavoring to equip young Texans with the skills 1-23 and knowledge necessary for future success is a most commendable 1-24 undertaking; during her 30 years as a teacher, Alicia Cron has 2-1 earned a special place in the hearts of many of her students and 2-2 the respect and admiration of her colleagues and friends, and she 2-3 truly merits legislative recognition for her most recent 2-4 achievement; now, therefore, be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-6 Legislature hereby congratulate Alicia Cron on being named Middle 2-7 School Teacher of the Year by the Texas Council of Teachers of 2-8 English and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success 2-9 and happiness; and, be it further 2-10 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-11 prepared for Mrs. Cron as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-12 House of Representatives.
