No. 484 77R8757 JKB-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Hunger remains one of the crucial issues of our 1-2 time, and every day an estimated 35,000 people die around the world 1-3 from malnutrition or the effects of malnutrition; Breedlove 1-4 Dehydrated Foods and the International Rotary Club have joined 1-5 together in an effort to combat this devastating problem; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Located in Lubbock, Texas, Breedlove Dehydrated 1-7 Foods is the first nonprofit food dehydration plant in the world 1-8 that is dedicated to eradicating hunger around the world; this 1-9 visionary enterprise utilizes surplus vegetables grown in Texas to 1-10 provide inexpensive, nutritious meals from a blend of dehydrated 1-11 potatoes, carrots, textured vegetable protein, rice, and onions; 1-12 easy to transport, store, and prepare, these meals are provided to 1-13 food banks, mission groups, and international aid organizations; 1-14 and 1-15 WHEREAS, The International Rotary Club's HungerPlus program 1-16 provides these dehydrated meals to individuals in the United 1-17 States, Mexico, Central America, South America, Asia, Africa, and 1-18 the countries of the former Soviet Union; in addition, volunteers 1-19 are helping the people of these areas to develop a self-sufficient 1-20 food supply through improved farming techniques and education; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Working to alleviate hunger is truly an admirable 1-22 endeavor, and the men and women who have chosen to undertake this 1-23 venture are most deserving of praise and support; now, therefore, 1-24 be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-2 Legislature hereby commend the staff of the Breedlove Dehydration 2-3 Plant, Mr. Robert Taylor, the general manager of Breedlove 2-4 Dehydrated Foods, Mr. David Weaver, Jr., the executive director of 2-5 the South Plains Food Bank, J. B. Roberts, a Rotarian from 2-6 Plainview, Texas, and all those associated with the HungerPlus 2-7 program of the International Rotary Club for their humanitarian 2-8 efforts and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued 2-9 success; and, be it further 2-10 RESOLVED, That all members of the Texas Legislature encourage 2-11 their constituents to become HungerPlus partners by working with 2-12 local food banks and nonprofit and faith-based organizations to 2-13 support this laudable program.
