                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Anna Washington Curtis is being honored for her
 1-2     professional achievements with an "Outstanding Texan Award" to be
 1-3     presented by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus at a ceremony held
 1-4     in Austin on March 15, 2001; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, A native Houstonian, Ms. Curtis graduated magna cum
 1-6     laude from Texas Southern University with a degree in social work;
 1-7     she began her career at the Julia C. Hester House, a United Way
 1-8     Agency, where she was the program director for seven years; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, After going to work for the City of Houston at the
1-10     Fifth Ward Multi-Service Center, she was promoted to administrator
1-11     of the Kashmere Multi-Service Center, launching a distinguished
1-12     tenure that lasted 24 years until her retirement on January 31,
1-13     2001; and
1-14           WHEREAS, A devout congregant at Mount Olive Baptist Church,
1-15     Ms. Curtis is the Christian Education director for the church, and
1-16     she directs the children's church, counsels young adults, and acts
1-17     as program planner for the pastor's aide; moreover, she teaches
1-18     adult Sunday school classes; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Also a notable community leader, Ms. Curtis is
1-20     involved in various civic activities in the Fifth Ward/Kashmere
1-21     Gardens area in Houston, and she serves as secretary of the board
1-22     of the Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corporation; and
1-23           WHEREAS, A dedicated social services professional and
1-24     exemplary citizen, Ms. Curtis has contributed greatly to the
 2-1     betterment of the lives of countless people through her career in
 2-2     social work as well as through her church and community endeavors,
 2-3     and she truly deserves recognition at this time; now, therefore, be
 2-4     it
 2-5           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-6     Legislature hereby congratulate Anna Washington Curtis on earning
 2-7     an "Outstanding Texan Award" from the Texas Legislative Black
 2-8     Caucus and extend to her sincere best wishes for  the future; and,
 2-9     be it further
2-10           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-11     prepared for Ms. Curtis as an expression of high regard by the
2-12     Texas House of Representatives.
