                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to
 1-2     honor Weldon Willig for the positive impact he has made in the
 1-3     lives of his students and for his many achievements while with The
 1-4     Woodlands High School; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, A graduate of Austin College and the University of
 1-6     Houston, Coach Willig is the longtime athletic director at The
 1-7     Woodlands High School; also serving as head football coach, he has
 1-8     compiled a 155-63-5 record and has guided the Highlanders to nine
 1-9     playoff appearances in the last 11 years and three straight
1-10     District 15-5A championships; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Currently more than 1,400 students are participating
1-12     in the high school's athletic programs; under Coach Willig's astute
1-13     guidance over the past 20 years, The Woodlands athletic programs
1-14     have excelled and prospered; the Highlanders have captured state
1-15     championships in boys' cross country, boys' swimming, and baseball,
1-16     had top six finishes in girls' golf, boys' track, and swimming, and
1-17     reached the state semifinals in football; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Coach Willig has been recognized as the District
1-19     Coach of the Year 10 times; he has been named to the Austin College
1-20     Athletic Hall of Honor and the Greater Houston Football Coaches
1-21     Association's Hall of Honor and was selected as Coach of the Year
1-22     in 2000 by the Houston TD Club and as Montgomery County Coach of
1-23     the Decade for the 1980s; and
1-24           WHEREAS, A testament to his devotion to The Woodlands High
 2-1     School athletic program is its winning the overall excellence
 2-2     Prime-Sports Award in 1995-1996 and 1996-1997 and finishing near
 2-3     the top of the Lone Star Cup standings each year, including fourth
 2-4     in 2000; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, Perhaps most impressive are his decades of
 2-6     dedication to the youth of his community; to that end, he developed
 2-7     and organized The Woodlands Quarterback Club, which has given more
 2-8     than $250,000 for student athletes to attend college, and 14 of his
 2-9     former players have followed in his footsteps and are in the
2-10     coaching profession; and
2-11           WHEREAS, Recognized as a Hometown Hero by The Woodlands,
2-12     Coach Willig has proven himself to be an exemplary community leader
2-13     whose commitment to his students and his profession is indeed most
2-14     impressive; now, therefore, be it
2-15           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-16     Legislature hereby commend Weldon Willig for his outstanding tenure
2-17     with The Woodlands High School and extend to him best wishes for
2-18     continued success.
