By Yarbrough H.R. No. 517 77R9693 GMW-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to 1-2 honor the Booker T. Washington High School Leopards of Houston for 1-3 claiming first place at the Southeast regional robotics 1-4 competition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Held at the Kennedy Space Center in Cocoa Beach, 1-6 Florida, the 10-year-old competition pitted the Booker T. 1-7 Washington squad against 39 robotic teams from across the land; the 1-8 Leopards joined forces with teams from South Carolina and Florida, 1-9 forming an alliance of robots that was able to skillfully race 1-10 against the clock to perform complex tasks and garner a 1-11 record-setting 490 points in 59 seconds; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Adroitly designed, built, tested, and shipped in the 1-13 requisite six weeks, the Leopards' robot is a solid aluminum 1-14 structure with a tank-tread design for movement and is less than 19 1-15 inches tall while weighing only 110 pounds; following their success 1-16 in the Southeast regional competition, the Leopards will now have 1-17 the opportunity to showcase their robot's capabilities in other 1-18 regional meets and the national competition; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Special praise is indeed in order for all the 1-20 talented members of the Booker T. Washington High School Leopards 1-21 robotics team, as their accomplishments at the Southeast regional 1-22 competition and in the field of robotics design are most certainly 1-23 impressive; now, therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-1 Legislature hereby congratulate the Booker T. Washington High 2-2 School Leopards on claiming top honors at the Southeast regional 2-3 robotics competition; and, be it further 2-4 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-5 prepared for the Booker T. Washington High School Leopards as an 2-6 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
