R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On this day, one of the state's fine citizens is 1-2 being honored for her significant contributions to her community, 1-3 and it is a privilege to recognize March 19, 2001, as Doris Hamblen 1-4 Day at the State Capitol; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A native of Nacogdoches, this remarkable woman 1-6 devotes her energies to improving the lives of those around her, be 1-7 it her family, her neighbors, or a weary traveler; and 1-8 WHEREAS, She worked for Southwestern Bell before she met and 1-9 married J. E. Hamblen in 1954 and moved to Forney; their family 1-10 grew to include two children, Cheree and Lisa, and three beloved 1-11 grandchildren, Lucia, Landon, and Lena; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Mrs. Hamblen has been an active member of the First 1-13 Baptist Church of Forney for more than four decades, where she 1-14 taught Sunday school for many years; currently on the building 1-15 committee, she also works at the home where foreign missionaries 1-16 stay while they are on furlough; and 1-17 WHEREAS, An avid gardener, she founded the Forney 1-18 Beautification committee, coordinates the Christmas decorations 1-19 for the City of Forney each year, and is a member of the garden 1-20 club, and one of the town's parks, which she helped to establish, 1-21 now bears her name; and 1-22 WHEREAS, The recipient of the Helping Hand Award by the 1-23 Forney Chamber of Commerce and an active supporter of the local 1-24 food pantry, Mrs. Hamblen also is funding a scholarship for 2-1 graduates of Forney High School in memory of her late husband; and 2-2 WHEREAS, She is a gracious host who has opened her home to 2-3 friends of friends, visiting pastors, and local organizations, and 2-4 it is most appropriate to take this opportunity to honor this 2-5 kind-hearted woman of great integrity and humanity; now, therefore, 2-6 be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-8 Legislature hereby recognize March 19, 2001, as Doris Hamblen Day 2-9 at the State Capitol and extend to Mrs. Hamblen sincere best wishes 2-10 for the future; and, be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-12 prepared for Mrs. Hamblen as an expression of high regard by the 2-13 Texas House of Representatives.
