                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The retirement of the Honorable Shirley Spellerberg
 1-2     as mayor of Corinth brings to a close the distinguished career of a
 1-3     dedicated public official; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Mrs. Spellerberg launched a campaign for mayor after
 1-5     leading a successful effort to keep a ban on liquor sales in
 1-6     Corinth in the late 1970s; she was first elected to this
 1-7     prestigious position in 1983 and served admirably in the capacity
 1-8     for 16 years; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Under her guidance, the city implemented important
1-10     changes that helped Corinth flourish, such as upgrading police
1-11     equipment, establishing zoning guidelines for new subdivisions, and
1-12     overseeing plans to create a new city hall building and a 116-acre
1-13     park, and it entered into an agreement with surrounding cities to
1-14     have a paid fire and emergency service, rather than continuing its
1-15     reliance on a volunteer fire department; and
1-16           WHEREAS, During her outstanding tenure as mayor, the city has
1-17     grown from 1,400 to approximately 14,000 residents and has been
1-18     transformed from a bedroom community into a town with a number of
1-19     large companies, including CoServ and Boeing; and
1-20           WHEREAS, The hard work and commitment of Mayor Spellerberg in
1-21     behalf of her community is truly commendable, and it is indeed most
1-22     fitting that we honor her as she begins a new chapter in her life;
1-23     now, therefore, be it
1-24           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-1     Legislature hereby pay tribute to Shirley Spellerberg for her
 2-2     exemplary service as mayor of Corinth and extend to her warmest
 2-3     best wishes for happiness and good fortune in her future endeavors;
 2-4     and, be it further
 2-5           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-6     prepared for Mayor Spellerberg as an expression of high regard by
 2-7     the Texas House of Representatives.
