                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas Fire Chiefs Association has selected Wylie
 1-2     Fire Chief Shan English as the Texas Fire Chief of the Year; and
 1-3           WHEREAS, Assuming his post as Wylie fire chief in 1994 after
 1-4     13 years with the Arlington Fire Department, Chief English has
 1-5     throughout the ensuing years displayed outstanding leadership and
 1-6     organizational abilities and proven himself to be most deserving of
 1-7     this prestigious accolade; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, During Chief English's fine tenure, the department
 1-9     has grown and prospered while continuing to meet the needs of the
1-10     community; Wylie now has 12 full-time firefighters, 27 volunteers,
1-11     two fire stations, and state-of-the-art equipment; and
1-12           WHEREAS, This accomplished administrator has helped the fire
1-13     department thrive by emphasizing safety and prevention measures,
1-14     relying on teamwork to achieve success, and fostering a positive
1-15     environment that encourages and promotes mutual trust, respect, and
1-16     open dialogue; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Keeping the residents of Wylie out of harm's way is
1-18     an enormous responsibility; Chief English's guidance and vision
1-19     have made his department one of the most effective units in the
1-20     Lone Star State, and it is most appropriate to honor him for his
1-21     contributions to protecting the citizens of Wylie; now, therefore,
1-22     be it
1-23           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
1-24     Legislature hereby congratulate Shan English on being named Texas
 2-1     Fire Chief of the Year and extend to him best wishes for continued
 2-2     success and happiness; and, be it further
 2-3           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-4     prepared for Chief English as an expression of high regard by the
 2-5     Texas House of Representatives.
