R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
 1-2     John Longstreet for his outstanding tenure as mayor of Plano; and
 1-3           WHEREAS, This distinguished Texan has a long-standing record
 1-4     of service in behalf of his community, for he was a two-term city
 1-5     councilman and mayor pro tem before being  elected mayor of Plano
 1-6     in May 1996; since that time, Mayor Longstreet has skillfully
 1-7     guided this community of over 200,000 people as it has become the
 1-8     fifth fastest growing city in the United States; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, He served on the executive board of the Plano
1-10     Chamber of Commerce, and his broad expertise and experience have
1-11     been recognized at the statewide level as well with his service on
1-12     the Texas State Attorney General's Municipal Advisory Committee and
1-13     his appointments to the Collin County Private Industry Council by
1-14     Governor Bill Clements and to the Affordable Housing Task Force by
1-15     Governor George W. Bush; moreover, he is highly regarded by his
1-16     peers, who elected him president of the Metroplex Mayors
1-17     Association; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Mayor Longstreet has further ensured the betterment
1-19     of his community through his leadership with the Heritage Farmstead
1-20     Museum Board of Directors, the United Way of Plano, the Plano
1-21     Rotary Club, Neighborhood Youth Services, the Plano Independent
1-22     School District and its Futures Foundation, and others too numerous
1-23     to mention; for his efforts he was nominated for the Plano
1-24     Volunteer of the Year-Humanitarian award, and named Top Gun in
 2-1     Collin County by the American Cancer Society, and he has been
 2-2     honored as the State of Texas General Manager of the Year by the
 2-3     Texas Hotel and Motel Association for his business acumen as the
 2-4     vice president of Bristol Hotels & Resorts; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, Mayor Longstreet has greatly benefited the city of
 2-6     Plano and the State of Texas in myriad ways, and it is truly a
 2-7     privilege to recognize him for his exemplary achievements; now,
 2-8     therefore, be it
 2-9           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-10     Legislature hereby honor John Longstreet for his fine tenure as
2-11     mayor of Plano and extend to him best wishes for continued success
2-12     and happiness; and, be it further
2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-14     prepared for Mayor Longstreet as an expression of high regard by
2-15     the Texas House of Representatives.
