R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Dr. Tim Redman, an esteemed professor of literary 1-2 studies at The University of Texas at Dallas, has been elected to 1-3 another term on the executive board of the United States Chess 1-4 Federation, and this noteworthy achievement is indeed deserving of 1-5 special recognition; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Dr. Redman first gained a place on this 1-7 distinguished panel in 1978, and his seven-year tenure included a 1-8 three-year term as president of the nonprofit organization; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Dr. Redman has contributed 1-10 greatly to the advancement of the game of chess and the study of 1-11 its educational value to its players; he was the editor of The 1-12 Official Rules of Chess, 3rd Edition, as well as a contributing 1-13 editor for Chess Life, and he has long studied the effects of the 1-14 game on society and the mind, presenting papers and lectures 1-15 throughout the country; and 1-16 WHEREAS, A member of two national champion collegiate teams 1-17 and a former United States representative to the World Chess 1-18 Federation, Dr. Redman founded and directs the renowned chess 1-19 program at The University of Texas at Dallas and is an 1-20 award-winning member of the Chess Journalists of America; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Tim Redman has proven himself to be an outstanding 1-22 chess player and a dedicated educator, and it is fitting that he be 1-23 honored for his myriad contributions to the game of chess; now, 1-24 therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-2 Legislature hereby congratulate Tim Redman on his election to the 2-3 executive board of the United States Chess Federation and extend to 2-4 him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-6 prepared for Dr. Redman as an expression of high regard by the 2-7 Texas House of Representatives.
