R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of John Davis Weinberg of Frisco on
1-2 November 21, 2000, at the age of 59, has brought a profound sense
1-3 of loss to the family and friends of this esteemed gentleman; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Born on April 17, 1941, Mr. Weinberg attended
1-5 Kilgore Junior College and graduated from The University of Texas
1-6 at Austin before embarking on a professional career; and
1-7 WHEREAS, After returning to Kilgore and working at his
1-8 family's clothing store, Mr. Weinberg took a position with Texas
1-9 Power and Light and enjoyed a distinguished 33-year career with the
1-10 company, serving most recently as TXU manager of TU Electric and
1-11 Lone Star Gas in Frisco; and
1-12 WHEREAS, He also contributed greatly to the community,
1-13 holding such important positions as chairman for the March of Dimes
1-14 in Plano, division captain for the Grayson County United Way,
1-15 president of the Sherman American Heart Association, Addison
1-16 Business Association, and Frisco Chamber of Commerce, board
1-17 chairman of the Frisco YMCA and board vice chairman of Trinity
1-18 Medical Center; and
1-19 WHEREAS, Mr. Weinberg donated his time and considerable
1-20 talents to numerous other civic and philanthropic organizations and
1-21 was a valued and respected member of the Highland Park Presbyterian
1-22 Church; and
1-23 WHEREAS, Known for his amiable personality and caring nature,
1-24 Mr. Weinberg earned the Frisco Citizen of the Year award in 1991
2-1 and selection as a North Texas Leader of Excellence by the Freedom
2-2 Foundation in 1996; moreover, the Frisco Chamber of Commerce has
2-3 named a golf tournament in his honor as a token of its appreciation
2-4 for his unstinting efforts in behalf of the community; and
2-5 WHEREAS, This estimable gentleman won a special place in the
2-6 hearts of countless people; although Mr. Weinberg will be deeply
2-7 missed, his bright spirit will continue to live on in the memories
2-8 of all those whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it
2-9 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-10 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of John Davis Weinberg
2-11 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
2-12 wife, Sharon Kay England Weinberg; to his daughters, Paige Weinberg
2-13 and Cari John Weinberg; to his siblings and their spouses, Joe and
2-14 Gayle Weinberg, George and Pam Weinberg, and Mary Nell and Jack
2-15 Fried; and to his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Hardy and
2-16 Elizabeth England; to his father-in-law, Henry England, Jr.; and to
2-17 his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further
2-18 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-19 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-20 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-21 John Davis Weinberg.
