                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The untimely passing of Grapevine warrant officer
 1-2     Humberto Quintanilla, Sr., on February 6, 2001, at the age of 56,
 1-3     has brought a great loss to the family and friends of this esteemed
 1-4     gentleman; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, A veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Quintanilla
 1-6     proudly served his country for eight years of active duty, and he
 1-7     also spent four years as a reserve officer and four years on
 1-8     standby reserve duty; during his service, he met and married the
 1-9     former Yolanda Salinas, with whom he had four beloved children and
1-10     shared more than 30 wonderful years of marriage; and
1-11           WHEREAS, In 1970, Mr. Quintanilla began his law enforcement
1-12     career as a police officer for the City of Euless, where he was
1-13     employed for the next two decades; a natural leader and recipient
1-14     of 14 letters of commendation, this dedicated officer was promoted
1-15     to the rank of sergeant in 1975 and under his careful guidance, the
1-16     city developed its first full-operation jail; and
1-17           WHEREAS, "Sergeant Bert," as he was known throughout the
1-18     community, resigned from the Euless Police Department in 1990; he
1-19     became a detective in Grapevine and continued his impressive career
1-20     in public service until his untimely death; a man who had to leave
1-21     high school early, but who recognized the value of education and
1-22     training, he had accumulated more than 780 hours of in-service
1-23     training; he had also gained the respect and admiration of his
1-24     colleagues in the law enforcement field and the citizens in the
 2-1     communities that he served; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Mr. Quintanilla was a man of integrity and
 2-3     compassion who adored his wife, children, and grandchildren, loved
 2-4     his ranch, and had a knack for making people laugh; he is deeply
 2-5     missed by the many individuals with whom he shared his life, but
 2-6     his spirit continues to live on in the hearts and minds not only of
 2-7     his family and friends, but also of all who were helped by him over
 2-8     the course of his exceptional life and career; now, therefore, be
 2-9     it
2-10           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-11     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Humberto "Bert"
2-12     Quintanilla, Sr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
2-13     family: to his wife, Yolanda Quintanilla; to his children, Humberto
2-14     Quintanilla, Jr., Mona Pimentel, Olivia Burks, and Jesse Bert
2-15     Quintanilla; to his son-in-law, Gary Burks; to his daughter-in-law,
2-16     Martha Huerta; to his brothers, David Quintanilla, Able
2-17     Quintanilla, Eddie Martinez, Willie Martinez, and Hector Martinez;
2-18     to his sisters, Tillie Martinez, Tota Morales, Mona Aguilar, and
2-19     Pauline Infante; and to his many other relatives and friends; and,
2-20     be it further
2-21           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-22     prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
2-23     Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Humberto
2-24     Quintanilla, Sr.
