R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Harriet Griffin has long been a leader in her
 1-2     community, first as a teacher, counselor, and administrator in the
 1-3     Fort Worth Independent School District (ISD) and now as an advocate
 1-4     for the senior citizens of Texas, and her significant efforts are
 1-5     most deserving of special legislative recognition; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, During her more than 30-year tenure with the Fort
 1-7     Worth ISD, this distinguished educator helped generations of Texans
 1-8     in their academic pursuits, equipping our future leaders with the
 1-9     knowledge and skills necessary for a lifetime of success; she
1-10     retired in 1976 as the director of professional relations for the
1-11     district and has since given generously of her time and many
1-12     talents to benefit a host of worthwhile organizations; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Well known as a spokesperson for the AARP's Women's
1-14     Initiative, Ms. Griffin has dedicated herself to improving the
1-15     quality of life for the elderly and all citizens in the Fort Worth
1-16     area; the current chairwoman of the Tarrant County Commission on
1-17     Aging, she has participated in numerous organizations, including
1-18     the Citizens Advisory Council of the Texas Department on Aging, the
1-19     Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council, the American Cancer Society,
1-20     the Sickle Cell Anemia Association, Meals on Wheels, Inc., and the
1-21     Mental Health Association; and
1-22           WHEREAS, Ms. Griffin has drawn upon her diverse experiences
1-23     to promote the concerns and issues facing older Americans on the
1-24     national and state levels as a delegate to the 1981 and 1993 White
 2-1     House conferences on aging and as a member of the State Committee
 2-2     on Long-Term Care for the Elderly; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, This esteemed individual has earned the respect and
 2-4     admiration of her colleagues and many friends and has been honored
 2-5     by a host of prestigious groups; the Fort Worth ISD Distinguished
 2-6     Alumnus Award, the Lone Star Business and Professional Women's Club
 2-7     Sarah T. Hughes Award, the Trail Blazer Award by the Texas Joint
 2-8     Conference on Aging, and the Outstanding Citizen for Seniors Award
 2-9     from Senior Citizen Services of Greater Tarrant County, Inc., are
2-10     among her many accolades; and
2-11           WHEREAS, Harriet Griffin is a woman of integrity and
2-12     tremendous compassion, and it is a privilege to honor her hard work
2-13     and dedication at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-14           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-15     Legislature hereby commend Harriet Griffin for her many years of
2-16     civic leadership and extend to her sincere best wishes for
2-17     continued success in all her future endeavors; and, be it further
2-18           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-19     prepared for Ms. Griffin as an expression of high regard by the
2-20     Texas House of Representatives.
