                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas Association of Public Employee Retirement
 1-2     Systems is holding its 12th annual conference in Austin on April
 1-3     1-4, 2001; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Founded in 1989, this voluntary, nonprofit
 1-5     educational organization works in behalf of public employees in
 1-6     Texas to strengthen public pension systems throughout the state;
 1-7     and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Composed today of more than 100 public retirement
 1-9     systems and the financial professionals and other consultants who
1-10     assist them, the association provides guidance and education for
1-11     pension fund administrators, monitors state and federal
1-12     legislation, and fosters communication among system administrators,
1-13     their advisors, and government leaders; and
1-14           WHEREAS, During the association's conference in Austin, its
1-15     members will have an opportunity to meet with legislators and
1-16     discuss a range of issues affecting these public pension funds; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Public retirement systems represent a significant
1-18     number of Texas workers, from police and fire officials to
1-19     employees of hospital districts and university medical centers, and
1-20     this association is to be commended for the vital role it plays in
1-21     promoting the sound condition of these public funds; now,
1-22     therefore, be it
1-23           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
1-24     Legislature hereby recognize April 3, 2001, as Texas Association of
 2-1     Public Employee Retirement Systems Day at the State Capitol and
 2-2     recognize the valuable work being done by this outstanding
 2-3     organization.
