R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On March 21, 2001, many proud residents from 1-2 Hillsboro are gathering in Austin to celebrate Hillsboro Day at the 1-3 State Capitol, and this festive event is indeed an appropriate 1-4 occasion to pay special tribute to this unique Texas town; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Hillsboro has grown with the changing times while 1-6 still maintaining the charm and friendliness of a small town; the 1-7 city has many beautifully restored Victorian residences and also 1-8 features a number of fine antique shops, which attract 1-9 discriminating connoisseurs from across the state; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Among the city's most valuable assets is Hill 1-11 College, and this outstanding institution is home to the 1-12 award-winning Texas Heritage Museum and research center; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Each year Hillsboro hosts a number of special 1-14 events, including the county fair, Bond's Alley Summer Festival and 1-15 Holiday Bazaar, and the Go Texan/Cotton Pickin' Fair, and these 1-16 events are ideal showcases for the city's hospitality and scenic 1-17 beauty; and 1-18 WHEREAS, The county seat of Hill County, Hillsboro can also 1-19 take great pride in the restoration of its historic courthouse, 1-20 which was nearly destroyed by fire January 1, 1993; this historical 1-21 gem serves as the hub of county government and is the centerpiece 1-22 of the downtown business district; and 1-23 WHEREAS, The residents of Hillsboro live in a fine city that 1-24 has many special qualities that make it an outstanding place in 2-1 which to live, work, and raise a family; in light of its citizens' 2-2 many contributions to the State of Texas, it is most fitting that 2-3 Hillsboro be given special legislative recognition at this time; 2-4 now, therefore, be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-6 Legislature hereby recognize March 21, 2001, as Hillsboro Day at 2-7 the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the delegation from 2-8 Hillsboro who are visiting the Capitol on this day.
