R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The citizens of Hamilton lost a valued friend and
 1-2     respected civic leader with the death of the Honorable Jim Leslie
 1-3     Hamilton on February 25, 2001, at the age of 93; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Mayor of Hamilton for 13 years during the 1970s and
 1-5     1980s, Mr. Hamilton also shared his leadership and vision for the
 1-6     community through his involvement in a number of community
 1-7     organizations; a former chief of the Hamilton Volunteer Fire
 1-8     Department and president of the Hamilton Lions Club, he also
 1-9     participated in the Masons and was a member and deacon of the First
1-10     Baptist Church for more than a half-century; and
1-11           WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman organized the Hamilton
1-12     Goodfellow Fund  and the charitable enterprise has provided
1-13     Christmas packages to families in need during the holidays for over
1-14     50 years; and
1-15           WHEREAS, For his admirable service to his community,
1-16     Mr. Hamilton was named Citizen of the Year for 1972 by the local
1-17     chamber of commerce; he was employed by the Texas Department of
1-18     Transportation for 45 years and was recognized by Lady Bird Johnson
1-19     for his exemplary contributions to the beautification of Texas
1-20     highways; and
1-21           WHEREAS, Residents of Hamilton will long miss this fine man,
1-22     and he will surely be remembered with great affection and
1-23     admiration for many years to come; now, therefore, be it
1-24           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-1     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Honorable Jim
 2-2     Leslie Hamilton and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
 2-3     family:  to his daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and J. L. Beard,
 2-4     Betty and Glen Horner, Sharon and George Warlick, and Betty Hardin;
 2-5     to his son, Bill Hamilton; to his grandchildren,
 2-6     great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and to his
 2-7     other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
 2-8           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-9     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-10     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-11     Jim Leslie Hamilton.
