                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, On March 28, 2001, many fine residents from Hood
 1-2     County are gathering in Austin to celebrate Hood County Day at the
 1-3     State Capitol; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Established in 1866, Hood County is named for Texas
 1-5     patriot John Bell Hood, who was a lieutenant general in the
 1-6     Confederate Army; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, In its early days, Hood County depended on an
 1-8     abundance of cotton, corn, and oat crops and its livestock to bring
 1-9     prosperity to the area; throughout the years, the county has
1-10     undergone many changes and now relies on a multifaceted economy
1-11     that revolves around agribusiness, energy production, and the
1-12     tourism industry; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Granbury, founded in 1854, serves as the county
1-14     seat, and its town square is in the prestigious National Register
1-15     of Historic Places list and was selected as "The Best Town Square
1-16     in Texas" by the readers of Texas Highways magazine; moreover,
1-17     Granbury has many notable attractions, such as Acton State
1-18     Historical Park, the state's smallest state park and the site of
1-19     the grave of Elizabeth Crockett, wife of Davy Crockett, the
1-20     Granbury Opera House, the Great Race Automotive Hall of Fame, the
1-21     Hood County Museum, and the Dabney and Captain's houses; and
1-22           WHEREAS, The citizens of Hood County enjoy celebrating the
1-23     area's unique heritage with traditional events, such as the Civil
1-24     War reenactment, General Granbury's Bean & Rib Cookoff, and the
 2-1     Third Thursday Gospel Concerts; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, This geographically diverse region also includes the
 2-3     towns of Acton, Cresson, Lipan, Paluxy, and Tolar, and it offers
 2-4     ample opportunities for fishing, boating, camping, and a wide range
 2-5     of other outdoor and water activities; visitors and locals alike
 2-6     can keep up with all the news and events by reading the Hood County
 2-7     News, a  periodical that has been published since 1886; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, The citizens of Hood County are readily embracing
 2-9     the myriad challenges of the present and looking forward to the
2-10     opportunities of the future while continuing to build on their rich
2-11     history, and it is indeed appropriate that the county's citizens be
2-12     recognized for their contributions and accomplishments; now,
2-13     therefore, be it
2-14           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-15     Legislature hereby recognize March 28, 2001, as Hood County Day at
2-16     the State Capitol and extend to the Hood County delegation sincere
2-17     best wishes for an enjoyable and memorable visit.
