                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The citizens of Star Harbor lost a valued friend and
 1-2     trusted civic leader with the death of Roy E. Pitts on March 6,
 1-3     2001, at the age of 88; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, This Collin County native worked days at Lone Star
 1-5     Gas Co. in Dallas as a secretary to the general counsel while
 1-6     putting himself through law school at night, and following his
 1-7     graduation from the Dallas School of Law, he embarked on a
 1-8     distinguished legal career with the company; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, After more than 20 years of exemplary service, he
1-10     was named general counsel for the gas utility, and in 1971 he was
1-11     elected chairman of the board; with leadership and dedication, he
1-12     played an integral role in transforming Lone Star Gas Co. into a
1-13     worldwide diversified energy company until his retirement in 1977;
1-14     and
1-15           WHEREAS, In addition, this admirable gentleman served as a
1-16     director of the Trinity River Authority for nine years and belonged
1-17     to a number of professional organizations, such as the American Gas
1-18     Association, the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America, and
1-19     the American, Texas, and Dallas bar associations; and
1-20           WHEREAS, An active member of Mary, Queen of Heaven Catholic
1-21     Church, Mr. Pitts also contributed his time and talents to the Star
1-22     Harbor community as an attorney for the city and was a
1-23     fourth-degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus and a Paul Harris
1-24     Fellow of the Malakoff Rotary Club; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Although he will be deeply missed, Mr. Pitts leaves
 2-2     behind a lasting legacy of achievement, and his extensive
 2-3     contributions to his community will not soon be forgotten; now,
 2-4     therefore, be it
 2-5           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-6     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Roy E. Pitts and
 2-7     extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
 2-8     Agnes Maloney Pitts; to his daughter, Rosemary Pitts Burns; to his
 2-9     sons, State Representative Jim Pitts and John R. Pitts; to his
2-10     seven grandchildren; and to his other relatives and many friends;
2-11     and, be it further
2-12           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-13     prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
2-14     Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Roy E.
2-15     Pitts.
