R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, November 22, 2000, was a tremendous milestone in
 1-2     Charles William Tackett's enduring career in law enforcement, for
 1-3     it marked 50 years of dedicated service to the City of Corpus
 1-4     Christi and Sam Houston State University; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Hired as a patrol officer on the Corpus Christi
 1-6     Police Department in 1950, Mr. Tackett was serving as sergeant by
 1-7     1960 and was promoted to lieutenant shortly thereafter;  then this
 1-8     fine officer bypassed the rank of captain to become commander in
 1-9     charge of Criminal Investigation; and
1-10           WHEREAS, After more than two decades in the field, he decided
1-11     to continue his higher education, and on a full scholarship
1-12     graduated with honors from Sam Houston State University in 1972
1-13     with a degree in police science; and
1-14           WHEREAS, He returned to the Corpus Christi Police Department,
1-15     then in August 1973 accepted the position of director of the
1-16     Department of Public Safety Services at Sam Houston State
1-17     University, where he has worked since; during his tenure with the
1-18     university, he has been instrumental in acquiring the department's
1-19     first squad cars, cultivating a 12-officer unit, and developing an
1-20     effective and respected organization; and
1-21           WHEREAS, His exceptional efforts have not gone unnoticed;
1-22     Chief Tackett has earned much acclaim on the local and state
1-23     levels, including a nomination for Outstanding Administrator in the
1-24     Field of Campus Law Enforcement, designation as Employee of the
 2-1     Year in 1996 for his division, and receipt of the Sam Houston State
 2-2     University Award in 2000; he also was made a Paul Harris Fellow by
 2-3     the Rotary Club of Huntsville; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, Since beginning his career in law enforcement, Chief
 2-5     Tackett has continually demonstrated the dedication and integrity
 2-6     essential for success in this esteemed profession; he has garnered
 2-7     the admiration of his colleagues for his tireless efforts and the
 2-8     gratitude of the residents and students under his protection for
 2-9     his diligence, and it is truly a privilege to honor him at this
2-10     time; now, therefore, be it
2-11           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-12     Legislature hereby congratulate Charles W. Tackett on an exemplary
2-13     career in law enforcement and extend to him sincere best wishes for
2-14     continued success and happiness in the years to come; and, be it
2-15     further
2-16           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-17     prepared for Mr. Tackett as an expression of high regard by the
2-18     Texas House of Representatives.
