R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Inaugurated by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in
1-2 1956, the sister city concept fosters greater friendship and
1-3 understanding between the people of the United States and other
1-4 nations through direct personal contact; and
1-5 WHEREAS, The Lone Star State has long supported these
1-6 mutually beneficial international relationships, and it is with
1-7 great pride that the members of this chamber recognize the recent
1-8 sister cities union between Eagle Pass, Texas, and Piedras Negras,
1-9 Coahuila, Mexico; and
1-10 WHEREAS, These two towns have agreed to develop and hone a
1-11 relationship of cooperation and sharing, one in which ideas and
1-12 insight into areas such as the economy, commerce, technology,
1-13 culture, education, health, sports, and labor are freely exchanged
1-14 to the mutual benefit of both communities; and
1-15 WHEREAS, The leaders of Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras have
1-16 shown an admirable commitment to strengthening international
1-17 understanding and goodwill, and this recent sister city connection
1-18 indeed merits special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be
1-19 it
1-20 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
1-21 Legislature hereby honor the cities of Eagle Pass, Texas, and
1-22 Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, on their establishment of a
1-23 sister city agreement and extend to the leaders and citizens of
1-24 both communities sincere best wishes for a rewarding relationship.
