R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Rotary International, the world's first service 1-2 club, builds goodwill and peace, engages in humanitarian service, 1-3 and encourages high ethical standards in all vocations; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Founded in Chicago in 1905 as a means of re-creating 1-5 the friendly cooperation of small-town businesspeople, Rotary is 1-6 now composed of some 1.2 million men and women working in more than 1-7 29,000 Rotary Clubs in 160 countries, all pledged to the motto 1-8 "Service Above Self"; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The Rotary International World Convention is being 1-10 held in San Antonio June 23-27, 2001, and is expected to draw 1-11 25,000 Rotarians from throughout the world; this occasion provides 1-12 an especially opportune time for Texas members to invite their 1-13 sister-city Rotary Clubs and all other international Rotarian 1-14 friends to visit their communities and the many historic and scenic 1-15 sites and other tourist attractions of the Lone Star State; and 1-16 WHEREAS, This is also a fitting time to recognize Frank J. 1-17 Devlyn of Mexico City, president of Rotary International; Irving J. 1-18 "Sonny" Brown of El Paso, vice chairman of the Rotary Foundation; 1-19 and Jim Berg and Dr. Duncan Wimpress of San Antonio, chairman and 1-20 vice chairman, respectively, of the Rotary International 2001 1-21 Convention Host Committee; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Texas Rotarians play a significant role in their 1-23 communities, promoting cultural understanding, business 1-24 development, and numerous activities for families and youth, 2-1 including an extensive student-exchange program; special tribute is 2-2 due these individuals and the following Rotary governors of Texas: 2-3 Randall Gleason, District 5520; R. C. Paulette, District 5730; 2-4 David Stubbeman, District 5790; Linus Wright, District 5810; Bill 2-5 Rains, District 5830; John Holcomb, District 5840; Patsy Derr, 2-6 District 5870; Charles Clemmons, District 5890; John Germany, 2-7 District 5910; and Billy Settles, District 5930; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Rotarians in Texas and around the world enrich their 2-9 communities in myriad ways, and Rotary International merits the 2-10 support of all Texans and of this body; now, therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-12 Legislature hereby honor all members of the Rotary Clubs of Texas 2-13 for their exemplary public service and extend to them sincere best 2-14 wishes for good fortune in their worthy endeavors.
