No. 597 77R10417 JKB-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On this day, students involved in the Empowering 1-2 Teen Leaders and Community Teen Leaders programs in Harris County 1-3 high schools have come to the State Capitol to meet with state 1-4 leaders and experience the legislative process firsthand; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Established by the Texas Agricultural Extension 1-6 Service, the teen leader programs help to instill in youth the 1-7 knowledge and skills essential for success; through their 1-8 involvement, the high school juniors present today have 1-9 demonstrated great initiative and maturity, as well as a commitment 1-10 to the betterment of their community through volunteerism; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Becoming role models for their peers, these student 1-12 leaders join a select group of students who have received this 1-13 training before them, 36 of whom have been presented with the 1-14 Presidential Youth Service Gold Award from the president of the 1-15 United States for their outstanding community service; and 1-16 WHEREAS, All told, Empowering Teen Leaders and Community Teen 1-17 Leaders have touched the lives of more than 93,000 people and 1-18 contributed over 41,000 hours of civic service, and these Harris 1-19 County students are adding greatly to the programs' impressive 1-20 record of achievement; now, therefore, be it 1-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 1-22 Legislature hereby commend the members of the Empowering Teen 1-23 Leaders and Community Teen Leaders programs for their exceptional 1-24 volunteer efforts and extend to them best wishes for an educational 2-1 and memorable visit to the seat of Texas government.
