                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, This year is indeed a special time in the North
 1-2     Texas city of Glen Rose, as it marks the 75th anniversary of the
 1-3     city's founding, and it is most fitting to recognize the rich
 1-4     history and the many significant contributions of this picturesque
 1-5     community at this time; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Founded in 1926, Glen Rose was originally called
 1-7     Rose Glen because the shores of its winding Paluxy River were
 1-8     flanked by wild roses and lush ferns; blessed with abundant natural
 1-9     beauty, the area features spring-fed pools that have long been
1-10     reported to contain healing minerals, spurring the town's main
1-11     source of income today, tourism; and
1-12           WHEREAS, The discovery of several dinosaur footprints in the
1-13     Paluxy riverbed led to the establishment of the city's Dinosaur
1-14     Valley State Park, a place that allows visitors the opportunity to
1-15     experience this rare piece of history, while preserving it in a
1-16     controlled environment; recognized by this body as the Dinosaur
1-17     Capital of Texas in 1997, Glen Rose welcomes more than a million
1-18     visitors each year to its dinosaur park and other outdoor and
1-19     cultural attractions; and
1-20           WHEREAS, A facility that has contributed greatly to the
1-21     economy of the Glen Rose area is the Comanche Peak Steam Electric
1-22     Station, a nuclear power plant located just north of the city
1-23     limits; this facility invites guests on guided tours of the power
1-24     plant site, and offers a truly memorable and educational
 2-1     experience; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Residents of this lovely city are also proud to host
 2-3     the acclaimed Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, 2,700 acres of unspoiled
 2-4     countryside that is home to some of the world's most endangered
 2-5     animals, including the white rhino, cheetah, and Grevy's zebra; and
 2-6           WHEREAS, A city of approximately 2,500 residents, Glen Rose
 2-7     has a small-town charm coupled with innumerable opportunities for
 2-8     adventure, making it a wonderful place to visit as well as live,
 2-9     work, and raise a family; its unique offerings and warm-hearted
2-10     citizens are truly an asset to the state, and it is a privilege to
2-11     honor this city on this most memorable occasion; now, therefore, be
2-12     it
2-13           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-14     Legislature hereby congratulate the citizens of Glen Rose as they
2-15     celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of their city and
2-16     extend to them sincere best wishes for a wonderful year; and, be it
2-17     further
2-18           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-19     prepared for the city of Glen Rose as an expression of high regard
2-20     by the Texas House of Representatives.
