R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Citizens of the United States owe an incalculable 1-2 debt to the nation's military personnel, who have served valiantly 1-3 throughout this country's history and whose efforts and sacrifice 1-4 have secured the liberties of countless Americans over many 1-5 generations, and the month of May is strongly associated with the 1-6 remembrance of these courageous men and women; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Since World War I, when a special day was designated 1-8 to pay tribute to all Americans who have laid down their lives in 1-9 their country's service, citizens have gathered each year on 1-10 Memorial Day in recognition of the noble ideals of duty, honor, and 1-11 patriotism; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Every day of every year, America's servicemen and 1-13 servicewomen are at their post, at home and throughout the world, 1-14 charged with maintaining the nation's security and prepared to do 1-15 their utmost in defense of their country and the cause of freedom; 1-16 and 1-17 WHEREAS, Texans have long distinguished themselves in the 1-18 annals of the armed forces, and today our fellow citizens continue 1-19 to uphold the tradition of integrity and gallantry established by 1-20 the legions who have gone before them; it is altogether fitting, 1-21 therefore, that we pay tribute to them and to all who have served 1-22 or who now wear with pride a uniform of a branch of the United 1-23 States military; now, therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-1 Legislature hereby recognize May 2001 as Armed Forces and Veteran 2-2 Appreciation Month in the State of Texas and urge all Texans to 2-3 honor our military personnel for their vital contributions to 2-4 freedom and democracy.
