                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, On April 9-10, 2001, many fine residents from Wise
 1-2     County are gathering in Austin to celebrate Wise County Days at the
 1-3     State Capitol; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Established in 1856 from Cooke County, the county is
 1-5     named for Henry A. Wise, a United States Congressman from Virginia
 1-6     who supported the annexation of Texas; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, In its early years, the county relied on its cattle
 1-8     and sheep production to spur growth; throughout the years, Wise
 1-9     County has undergone many changes and now benefits from a diverse
1-10     economy that is centered around agribusiness, petroleum, tourism,
1-11     and manufacturing; on the northwest edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth
1-12     Metroplex, Wise is one of the 25 fastest-growing counties in the
1-13     state; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Decatur serves as the county seat and is the home to
1-15     such notable attractions as the Waggoner Mansion, Old Stone Prison,
1-16     the Wise County Heritage Museum, and the historic pink granite Wise
1-17     County Courthouse built in 1895; other towns in the county include
1-18     Bridgeport, Alvord, Aurora, Boyd, Briar, Chico, Fairview,
1-19     Greenwood, Lake Bridgeport, Newark, Paradise, Rhome, Runaway Bay,
1-20     and Slidell; and
1-21           WHEREAS, Area residents uphold the county's heritage with
1-22     traditional annual events such as Butterfield Stage Days and
1-23     Chisholm Trail Days, and Lake Bridgeport, Eagle Mountain Lake, and
1-24     the Lyndon Baines Johnson National Grasslands provide a wide range
 2-1     of outdoor opportunities; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, The citizens of Wise County can be justifiably proud
 2-3     of their history and progressive development, and it is indeed
 2-4     appropriate to take this opportunity to recognize the outstanding
 2-5     role the county is playing in the annals of this state; now,
 2-6     therefore, be it
 2-7           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-8     Legislature hereby recognize April 9-10, 2001, as Wise County Days
 2-9     at the State Capitol and extend to its citizens warmest best wishes
2-10     for a memorable and enjoyable visit.
