R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Margaret H. Jordan of Dallas, a national expert on
 1-2     health care systems, has been chosen to receive an Outstanding
 1-3     Texan Award in the area of business from the Texas Legislative
 1-4     Black Caucus; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, The holder of a bachelor's degree in nursing from
 1-6     Georgetown University and a master's degree in public health
 1-7     administration and planning from the University of California at
 1-8     Berkeley, Ms. Jordan has studied health care delivery from many
 1-9     different vantage points; and
1-10           WHEREAS, She is currently president and CEO of the Margaret
1-11     Jordan Group, an international consulting practice, and executive
1-12     vice president for corporate affairs with Texas Health Resources, a
1-13     nonprofit system formed by the merger of Harris Methodist Health
1-14     System and Presbyterian Healthcare Resources; and
1-15           WHEREAS, A consultant since 1997, Ms. Jordan has trained
1-16     women managers in Tanzania and Zimbabwe, advised and developed
1-17     leaders for a new Canadian hospital system, and assisted a Fortune
1-18     500 company, a large integrated health system, and a national
1-19     managed care company on specific aspects of their business; and
1-20           WHEREAS, In her position with Texas Health Resources,
1-21     Ms. Jordan is responsible for stakeholder relationship management,
1-22     government relations, community health and benefit, and the system
1-23     diversity initiative for General Health Services; this corporation
1-24     consists of the PrimaCare medical and occupational medicine
 2-1     centers, Southwest Diagnostic Imaging Center, Surgery Center
 2-2     Southwest, and Gamma Knife Southwest; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, Ms. Jordan's expertise has been sought in many
 2-4     quarters; she has addressed the issue of health care reform in
 2-5     Congressional testimony and in appearances on public television's
 2-6     MacNeil-Lehrer News Hour, served on the advisory committee to the
 2-7     director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and
 2-8     held a seat on the Secretary's Council on Health Promotion and
 2-9     Disease Prevention with the U.S. Department of Health and Human
2-10     Services; and
2-11           WHEREAS, With her consummate understanding of health care
2-12     systems, her ability to articulate and focus on the salient issues
2-13     at hand, and her commitment to improving access to quality care and
2-14     treatment, Ms. Jordan is making a significant contribution to
2-15     health care in North Texas, and it is a great privilege and
2-16     pleasure to honor her at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-17           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-18     Legislature hereby congratulate Margaret H. Jordan on her receipt
2-19     of an Outstanding Texan Award in the area of business from the
2-20     Texas Legislative Black Caucus and extend to her sincere best
2-21     wishes for good fortune in her future endeavors; and, be it further
2-22           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-23     prepared for Ms. Jordan as an expression of high regard by the
2-24     Texas House of Representatives.
