R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Bernestine Singley of Duncanville has been chosen by
1-2 the Texas Legislative Black Caucus to receive an Outstanding Texan
1-3 Award for her significant contributions in the professional field,
1-4 and it is a privilege to honor her at this time; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Well-respected throughout her community as a lawyer,
1-6 manager, trainer, executive coach, and consultant, Mrs. Singley
1-7 founded STRAIGHTALK, a company that offers legal, administrative,
1-8 and corporate planning services to struggling companies and
1-9 organizations, more than a decade ago; her clients are fortunate to
1-10 benefit from her wealth of personal and professional knowledge,
1-11 drawn from 25 years of successful business experiences, and her
1-12 pragmatic, efficient, and fiscally prudent approach to business;
1-13 and
1-14 WHEREAS, This woman of many talents is also an accomplished
1-15 author, who won a coveted residency at one of the nation's most
1-16 prestigious artist communities, The MacDowell Colony, and while
1-17 there was named the 1997-1998 DeWitt Wallace Fellow; she is
1-18 currently editing The Book of Race Revelations, an anthology of
1-19 original personal essays on race, which is due to be released in
1-20 the spring of 2002; and
1-21 WHEREAS, Mrs. Singley, who grew up in public housing in
1-22 Charlotte, North Carolina, earned law degrees from both the
1-23 University of Florida College of Law and Harvard Law School before
1-24 embarking on her remarkable career path; and
2-1 WHEREAS, Consistently demonstrating the dedication and
2-2 strength of will essential for success in her profession, this
2-3 notable individual has garnered the respect of her family, her
2-4 friends, community leaders, and others throughout the state; in
2-5 light of this, it is most fitting to recognize Bernestine Singley's
2-6 many achievements as she receives this most recent award; now,
2-7 therefore, be it
2-8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatvies of the 77th Texas
2-9 Legislature hereby congratulate Bernestine Singley on her receipt
2-10 of the Outstanding Texan Award from the Texas Legislative Black
2-11 Caucus and extend to her sincere best wishes in all of her future
2-12 endeavors; and, be it further
2-13 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-14 prepared for her as an expression of high regard by the Texas House
2-15 of Representatives.
