No. 636 77R10968 MJS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Honorable Ogden Bass of Brazoria County is most 1-2 deserving of special legislative recognition for his contributions 1-3 to the State of Texas and valuable efforts in his community; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Born on February 5, 1934, Judge Bass graduated from 1-5 Texas A&M University and earned a doctorate at The University of 1-6 Texas School of Law; in addition, he served as a member of the 1-7 Texas National Guard, where he ascended to the rank of captain; and 1-8 WHEREAS, After serving as the criminal district attorney of 1-9 Brazoria County for four consecutive terms, he was elected judge of 1-10 the 300th Judicial District Court in Brazoria County; Judge Bass 1-11 served admirably in this capacity for three consecutive terms and 1-12 is now a retired senior judge and continues to work on an 1-13 assignment basis; and 1-14 WHEREAS, During his exemplary tenure on the bench, he was 1-15 selected as Brazoria County Judge of the Year three times and 1-16 became the presiding district judge; moreover, he has donated his 1-17 talents and prodigious abilities to a wide range of professional 1-18 organizations, including the Brazoria County Bar Association, Texas 1-19 Bar Foundation, National District Attorney's Association, Texas 1-20 Association for Court Administration, and the State Bar of Texas; 1-21 and 1-22 WHEREAS, This dedicated public servant's diverse legal 1-23 background also included service as assistant criminal district 1-24 attorney of Brazoria County, assistant attorney general of Texas, 2-1 and briefing attorney to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals; and 2-2 WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Brazoria County, Judge Bass 2-3 has been actively involved in his community; the Brazoria County 2-4 Boy's Club, Freeport Little League, Brazoria County Peace Officers 2-5 Association, Texas A&M Century Club, Freeport Recreation 2-6 Association, First Freeport United Methodist Church, and numerous 2-7 others have all benefited from his experience and leadership; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Whether it be as a judge or through his many good 2-9 works and deeds in his community, Judge Bass has strived to make a 2-10 positive and lasting difference in the Lone Star State, and it is 2-11 indeed most fitting to pay tribute to him at this time; now, 2-12 therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-14 Legislature hereby commend the Honorable Ogden Bass for his 2-15 impressive record of service and outstanding accomplishments and 2-16 extend to him sincere best wishes for happiness and good fortune in 2-17 his future endeavors; and, be it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-19 prepared for Judge Bass as an expression of high regard by the 2-20 Texas House of Representatives.
