No. 641 77R10101 MDM-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 Dr. Alva Chester Nelson, Jr., of Houston on his consecration as 1-3 auxiliary bishop of the Texas South Central Ecclesiastical 1-4 Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Born in Deweyville and a graduate of Union 1-6 Theological Seminary, Mount Hope Bible College & Theological 1-7 Seminary, and Texas Southern University, Bishop Nelson holds a 1-8 bachelor's degree in theology, a master's degree in divinity, and a 1-9 doctorate in ministry; and 1-10 WHEREAS, He has shared his faith as a pastor and evangelist 1-11 for 49 years and has been a source of inspiration to countless 1-12 individuals; the first state minister of music for the Texas South 1-13 Central Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, he has served in numerous 1-14 leadership positions in his church, including chair of the state 1-15 program committee and as general business administrator; and 1-16 WHEREAS, He has served on the boards of the Prairie View A&M 1-17 University Ministerial Conference, the C. H. Mason Bible College, 1-18 and the United States Chaplains, and he is a member of Houston 1-19 Ministers Against Crime and Houston Business and Professional Men; 1-20 and 1-21 WHEREAS, Dr. Alva Chester Nelson, Jr., continually 1-22 demonstrates a deep commitment to bettering the lives of his 1-23 fellowman, and it is a pleasure to join in paying tribute to him at 1-24 this time; now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-2 Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Alva Chester Nelson, Jr., on 2-3 the occasion of his consecration as auxiliary bishop of the Texas 2-4 South Central Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of the Church of God in 2-5 Christ and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success 2-6 and happiness; and, be it further 2-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-8 prepared for Bishop Nelson as an expression of high regard by the 2-9 Texas House of Representatives.
